Pour water of chosen temperature and salinity into a tank holding a slice of the ocean from Antarctica to the Greenland side, and read on the temperature–salinity (T–S) diagram how both set the density of seawater. Cool polar water and freeze sea ice to make Antarctic Bottom Water, survey three water masses at the equator, follow dye through hundreds of years of deep circulation, and see fresh water from melting ice weaken the sinking flow.
